My Global Citizen Scholar Mission:

I am driven by my passionate beliefs in growth, health, and relationships. I pursue these passions by utilizing my core strengths of includer, woo, and empathy. I plan to live out these values through opportunities where I am motivating and observing to achieve innovation and mindfulness that impacts communities and medical systems. To do so, I will seek opportunities to improve the process and make research-driven processes. When I face challenges or obstacles along the way, I will remember to make connections with others and stay flexible.

My Global Citizen Scholar Plan (for now)

The University Honors Program really stresses the importance of being a global citizen scholar, but I was never really sure what that meant until I took Gateway to Honors. I didn’t realize how much more there was to the honors program besides taking different classes and really working on my GPA. Since the beginning of the semester, it has been made clear to me that the honors program is a fantastic resource or obtaining research positions, internships, volunteer experience, and world experience through study abroad programs, among other things. In the first two months of being at the University of Cincinnati, I've been presented with opportunities like RAMP and SURF, which give me a massive advantage over other pre-med undergraduate students when it comes to obtaining research positions. I decided not to take advantage of them this year due to the courseload I’ve been scheduled to take next semester, but I intend to take advantage of the opportunity next year. I'm very intrigued by the possibility of taking a course or study tour abroad at some point during one of my breaks, as I feel like that would definitely further my understandings of peoples around the world. GlobeMed offers an interesting program where a certain number of members are chosen to go to Thailand for a month and submerge themselves in the culture, which I think would be a very enlightening experience, similar to the Honors Program’s offerings. My interactions with the staff of the UHP have all been positive, as all of them have been eager to help students, as well as answer our questions, or direct us to the right person to ask. This creates the perfect environment to network between both staff and students, allowing even more opportunities for further involvement in the community. One of the foundations of UHP is volunteerism and engagement, which is perfect for premeds because we need to learn more about the different communities we plan to serve in order to be more effective practitioners. I plan on volunteering heavily in the Cincinnati health network, such as in Children’s or Good Samaritan—both of which have heavy connections to the Honors program. The environment here is perfect for me to grow in because I am inherently a very social person and I plan to use that trait to network and develop friendships and strengthen my soft skills in order to become a more successful global citizen scholar.
